Beauty Products is defined by American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery as “any product intended to beautify healthy skin and enhance beauty”. Cosmetics are comprised of a blend of various chemical substances derived from natural resources or synthetic ones, used in beauty care products. The classification of cosmetics is mostly based on the materials used to create the finished product, and not on any medical or therapeutic value. Cosmetics do not fall under any recognizable category of drugs or medications and can therefore not be controlled by the Food and Drug Administration.

While it is true that some cosmetics have been regulated by the U.S Food and Drug Administration, the agency has limited capacity to intervene in cosmetics manufacturing. The FDA does not ban ingredients that may be included in beauty products. There are, however, regulations that impact the use of some chemicals and the manner in which they are used. For instance, all lipsticks contain a dioxane-like compound called Dolidimethoxazole. The cosmetic product manufacturer is responsible for determining whether or not the Dioline meets the legal requirement of having a label stating that the substance is safe for human use.

The FDA has recognized two different categories of cosmetics for use. There is a category of beauty products that are “cosmeceutical” and a second one that falls between the cosmeceuticals and other products. Cosmeceuticals are used to treat medical conditions, while other beauty products fall into the non-medical or dietary category. A non-medical, nighttime moisturizer falls into the dietary category.

A new product category has recently emerged to address the issue of skin-care products. Skin-care manufacturers have begun to develop products that specifically address the skin-care needs of women. A new beauty product category includes beauty items such as skin-care cleansers, toners, moisturizers, and makeup removers. While the majority of these beauty products have similar ingredients, they differ primarily in the price point. Some can be purchased by the woman, while others must be purchased by a beauty therapist or doctor.

Among the ingredients contained in non-medical beauty products, a common problem is that many contain harsh detergents or synthetic chemicals. These types of ingredients are known to strip away the protective oils that are present on the face, leaving dry and flaky skin. In an effort to prevent dryness and excessive oiliness, some of the new products contain natural and mild ingredients. For example, a cleanser may feature an ingredient that gently cleanses the dirt and oil that make its way into the pores.

Beyond the cleansing and toning steps, the new beauty products to further distinguish themselves by offering moisturizers and anti-aging solutions. Anti-aging creams help to tighten the facial skin. Moisturizers work to keep moisture locked in the epidermis and minimize the appearance of wrinkles and dryness. New anti-aging ingredients such as peptides and flavones are proving effective at reversing the effects of aging. The introduction of these newer beauty products is part of the general increase in knowledge and interest in the latest scientific developments in the health and beauty industry. This is being directed toward the prevention, as well as the maintenance of beauty, and should be considered as an important trend in the future.
